Potentially hazardous '2010 ST3' asteroid 'will miss earth'
The institute for Astronomy at the university stated that the '2010 ST3 asteroid has a diameter of roughly 150ft.
The asteroid is the first object picked up by the STARRS PS1 telescope that could pose a potential hazard to life on Earth.
Thankfully Robert Jedick of the PS1 Scientific Consortium, told the Star Tribune that the asteroid 'will not hit our planet' in the immediate future.
2010 ST3 was only discovered a matter of weeks ago and was believed to be 20 million miles away from earth at the time.
No doubt the discovery will have a few people looking skywards next month.
Asteroids such as Comet Hale-Bopp in 1997, the notorious 1986 appearance of Halley's Comet and Comet McNaught in 2006 have all had amateur astrologers training their instruments on the night sky in recent years.
